Auto insurance discounts for public transit users

During a conversation today, I realized that a lot of people don't know that all Massachusetts insurers give a discount for any driver who submits 11 public transit passes in a given year (and who doesn't drive to school or work more than 10 days per year). I thought I'd post this information here in case there are more people who aren't aware of this.

The text of the regulation is here and the list of approved public transit systems is here (and there are a lot more than I would have imagined).

Oh, my gosh, I didn't know that. Thanks. I own a car but commute to work from JP to downtown Boston by subway.

I wondered how this was going to work with the new Charlie Cards since you don't get a pass per se.

Anonymous, please refer to the comments policy in the sidebar.

If you buy it from the machine, you submit the receipt. If you get it from work, your HR department can give a printout of which months you had passes.

Well that seems fair to the point of, if you drive less we will let you pay less. I can see this information having great benefits to those that find it. Alas I don't exist in the area so I cannot collect.
