Why do I frequently get email replies from people who haven't known of me until I emailed them, yet they manage to spell my name wrong in their reply? It's like, you've only encountered my name once, and that was in written form, spelled correctly, from me.

That happens to me ALL the time.
Our Latin teacher used to correct the spelling of one kid's name. Every. Single. Time. (Mr. Ruddy thought he was funny. Johnathan did not.)
It happens to me two sometimes!!
My first name is Jim. Yesterday, I received an e-mail that began as follows:
Hi, Him!
I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt. I like to think it's either a Hispanic misspelling or from a fan of the Powerpuff Girls.
