I think I can explain that one. DH has an intermittent Southern accent ("point" being a case in point), but clearly has tried to get rid of at least aspects of it. In Southern speak, Ben & bin, pen & pin, etc all sound like the latter. When learning to distinguish the two, wires sometimes get crossed, so to speak, so that the wrong one pops out.
Yes, some of it is southernish, but others of it is inconsistent, and there really just isn't anywhere where people say "puont," except possibly very drunk Cajuns.
