I think the one thing they miss (and apparently what the sites that are lauding the show miss) is that the show is over the top and offensive- and appears to do so almost on purpose at times. I'm not sure if there is some plan that the writers have with it in those terms, but I think that there is definitely an intentionality there. I'm thinking that they're purposely using major cliche on purpose (there was a story line about a girl getting pregnant and convincing her boyfriend he was the father because he ejaculated in the same hot tube where she was sitting- that's almost as bad as saying she use the toilet seat after him!)
I love the show- but not for the story lines- I love the music!
